The United Soybean Board (USB) is made up of 64 farmer-directors who oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff on behalf of all U.S. soybean farmers. USB's New Uses program invests funding in the development of products in the following target markets: plastics, lubricants, coatings, printing inks and adhesives and emerging opportunities. USB-funded soy-based thermoset plastic successes include soy-based polyol products for polyurethanes and unsaturated polyester resins that are used in body panels for agricultural equipment, polyurethane spray foam insulation, polyurethane carpet-backing, polyurethane spray on truck bed liners and other products. Current research with major industry partners may someday yield soy-based soft and rigid foam applications in automobiles and in homes. As stipulated in the Soybean Promotion, Research and Customer Information Act, USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service has oversight responsibilities for USB and the soybean checkoff.
