Higher profits and better products don't come easy to any manufacturer; they result from original thinking. At Westland Corporation, we treat every day as an opportunity to push the limits of performance, to refine our processes and products. Our people bring enthusiasm, ingenuity and experience to the challenge of producing better molding components.

We can help you think differently about your cycle times, product quality ... and profit margins. Westland Corporation has earned the trust of some of the smartest plastic people around, and we can earn yours too.

FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED?

Let Westland's process engineers and years of experience help you reach your ultimate processing performance. Westland can evaluate your current process and offer recommendations on screw design and other variables to improve your productivity.

The Eagle Mixing Screw

The patented design of Westland's Eagle mixing screw improves cycle times, screw recovery and color dispersion. The Eagle can be designed to process any resin for your application.

The Eagle mixing screw has been proven to :

- Improve production rates by more than 25%

- Reduce part reject rates from more than 5% to less than 1%

- Reduce the amount of color concentrate required to achieve optimum color mix from 5% to 3%.

Our Eagle mixing screw is used with custom-designed single flighted screws and also with barrier designs for special applications.

The Eagle Barrier

The Eagle Barrier combines the advantages of the Eagle mixer with the melting efficiency of the barrier screw design. The barrier section "solid" and "melt" channels provide the effective melting of all resins, especially the "hard-to-melt" crystalline materials.

The material is then conveyed through the mixer to produce a high quality, isothermal melt.

The Eagle Barrier may be the answer for processing difficult materials, whether injection molding, blow molding or extrusion.

CYLINDERS AS TOUGH AS YOUR APPLICATIONS

Premature and uneven cylinder wear is expensive in terms of both replacement costs and lost process efficiency.

Most Westland cylinders are lined with CPM10V, an A-11 tool steel with exceptional longevity and uniform wear resistance. The extreme hardness and even vanadium particle dispersion of this material make it more universally resistant to adhesive and abrasive wear than any other lining alloy available.

For low abrasion applications, we keep your costs down by using D-2 tool steel.

PERFORMANCE PROVEN BIMETALLIC BARRELS

Westland also manufactures bimetallic barrels from Reiloy barrel blanks. These barrels are performance proven and highly wear resistant for your toughest applications.

Due to their proven production process, Reiloy barrel blanks are absolutely free from distortion.

Westland stocks multiple sizes of these barrel blanks which means a quick turn around for you.

REBUILT SCREWS

Screw repair consists of rebuilding the flights with a full width welded hard-facing to the OEM diameter specification and rechroming or renitriding the surface, if required. A properly rebuilt and polished screw can be as effective as a new one and an economical alternative to a new screw purchase.

The decision to repair a screw rather than purchase a new replacement generally should be based on the:

- Size of the screw

- Amount of wear on the root of the screw

- Design of the screw

RELINED CYLINDERS

Westland has been successfully relining cylinders since 1969. Using premium tool steels and special alloys, Westland is able to reline a cylinder up to 115" in length.

The decision to reline a barrel rather than replace it should be based on the economics of the situation.

Our recommendation is to reline that portion of the barrel which is worn beyond OEM tolerance levels. That length is determined by what is necessary to permit the blending of the new sleeve to the original bore with no visible mismatch.

NO COST INSPECTIONS

Send us your worn components and we will complete a thorough inspection. We then will report back to you our suggestions and costs for repair. This service is provided at no additional cost.
