Rescuing Niagara County's 'dirty dozen' brownfields sites Remediation could turn brownfields into sought-after land

June 15, 2008 - The site was used as a Union Carbide manufacturing facility from 1910 to 1986. The owner of the company, Salvatore "Sam" Santarosa of Lewiston, has told the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency that the expanded plant may create as many as 50 new jobs. How bad: The manufacturing of phenolic plastic resin compounds began here in the 1920s.
