Resin plant in rural South Carolina may be rescued

September 30, 2008 - At its height, the Wellman plant employed about 1,700 people making engineered resins and polyester fiber. After years of layoffs due to overseas competition and overextension of the company, the 170 remaining employees will work their last day just before Thanksgiving.
