June 18, 2007 - Utah schools win $64K for recycling A plastic bag recycling program has earned Utah schools more than $64,000, thanks to students' successful collection efforts. Whittier Elementary in West Valley City earned the top prize in Utah in the Wal-Mart-sponsored "Kids Recycling Challenge" for filling 1,465 60-gallon collection bags totaling 23,440 pounds. In Utah, 166 schools participated, filling 11,308 collection bags weighing a total of 180,928 lbs.
