Compared against "nitrided" barrels, WEXCO 666 typically provides a three to four times longer service life, and up to 10 times longer service life when used to process mildly corrosive polymers.

WEXCO "666" general purpose plasticating barrels are recommended for applications that process mildly abrasive materials (i.e. unfilled, non-corrosive polymers). The bore protection in WEXCO "666" barrels has a hardness range of Rockwell C 60-65, and consists of a nickel-boron base iron with a high hardness, martensitic structure in cementite matrix. It has excellent abrasion resistance and a low friction coefficient (0.07ยต) for prevention of screw galling.
